Metalcraft highly commended in National Apprenticeship Awards

Stainless Metalcaft (Chatteris, Cambs) is celebrating after being highly commended in the SME Employer of the Year category at the National Apprenticeship Awards.

The National Apprenticeship Awards recognise and reward the achievements of exceptional apprentices, apprenticeship champions and apprenticeship employers across the country, identifying those setting the standard for their respective industries and leading the way towards the world class workforce our country needs.

After winning the SME of the Year category for the East of England region earlier this year, Metalcraft went head to head with eight other companies around the country, narrowly missing out on the overall crown but being singled out to be Highly Commended.

Martin Lawrence, commercial director at Metalcraft – who began his own career as an apprentice at the company – said: “This is a fantastic achievement for the team and reflects our long commitment to training our own workforce, as well as the quality of apprenticeships available across our business.

“The engineering sector is evolving quickly, requiring a wide range of technical skills that lead into a variety of rewarding, long-term careers. Apprenticeships are a great way for people to enter the  sector, developing strong technical foundations while experiencing a range of roles and departments to identify where their talents might be best suited.

“With Metalcraft’s apprentices among some of the first to benefit from access to the state-of-the-art facilities at the North Cambs Training Centre, we’re excited for the future and look forward to helping our latest crop of engineers achieve their full potential and play key roles in the ongoing Metalcraft success story.”

The SME Employer of the Year award was sponsored by the BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT and was open to companies employing 1-249 employees. The wider awards are open to apprentices, individuals who promote apprenticeships and employers of all sizes and sectors, with entrants asked to demonstrate the impact apprenticeships have made to individual’s lives and their workplaces.

Applications to join Metalcraft’s four-year apprenticeship programme are now open. For further details, visit https://www.metalcraft.co.uk/careers/apprenticeship
