Sellafield: ILW 3m3 boxes

SMC were selected by Sellafield for the manufacture of ILW Magnox Swarf Storage Silo (MSSS) and Pile Fuel Cladding Silo (PFCS) 3m3 Stainless Steel Duplex Intermediate Level Waste (ILW) Boxes.

This included MSSS Bund Grouting Process Development and Handover to Volume Manufacture. The contract was agreed in 2017 and the project is ongoing. The value is £70m under current overarching contract for the manufacture of both PFCS and MSSS 3m3 Waste Containers. The scope covers Prototyping, Commissioning, Design for Manufacture, Initial Production Run and Volume Manufacture of >1000 3m3 containers.
